Research

  Development of Innovative Teaching Technology

Dr. MacPherson holds a Special Titles position within the department, specializing in teaching and the development of innovative teaching techniques. He is the James and Barbara Holsinger Endowed Professor of Anatomy and Vice-Chair of the Department for Educational Programs.  He has developed computer-assisted instructional self-study programs for laboratories/altases in basic and oral histology used at numerous universities world-wide.

 

He is co-author on the Atlas of Anatomy (Thieme) now in its 3rd edition and in 14 translated versions world-wide as well as the Thieme Teaching Assistant: Anatomy.  He is the editor for the Thieme Atlas of AnatomyVolume 3:  Head Neck, and Neuroanatomy, 2nd edition. Dr. MacPherson was also concept developer for the ground-breaking Thieme Electronic Dissector, now used by over 8,000 medical, dental PA and PT students in North America, and undergoing its 2nd edition.    He is currently editing the 4th edition of Avery’s Oral Development and Histology textbook and Programmed Learning Modules for dental head and neck gross anatomy laboratories.
